What is a Director ID?
A Director Identification Number (Director ID or DIN) is a 15-digit unique identifier issued to a director of a company under the Corporations Act 2001. Once issued, it stays with the individual for life—even if they change companies or stop being a director.
How to Find Your Director ID
You can retrieve your Director ID number using one of the following methods:
1. Log in to ABRS Online
- Visit abrs.gov.au
- Select “Director ID” from the menu and click “Log in”
- Use your myGovID (not myGov) to log in securely
- Once logged in, your Director ID number will be displayed on the dashboard
2. Check Your Confirmation Email or Letter
- If you applied online, your Director ID was emailed to you by the ABRS
- If you applied via paper or phone, a letter was sent to your postal address
3. Contact ABRS Support
- If you cannot access your Director ID via ABRS online or can’t find your email/letter, you can call the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS) at 13 62 50
- You will need to verify your identity to retrieve your Director ID
What If You’ve Forgotten Your Director ID?
If you’ve forgotten your Director ID, don’t worry. Your ID remains stored securely with the ABRS. To retrieve it:
- Log in again to the ABRS using your myGovID
- If you’re unable to log in, call ABRS to retrieve it after verifying your identity
- Make sure to update your contact details if you’ve changed your email or mailing address
